Temporary chillers in many cases can be supplied the same day. This in large part is due to the fact that we carry large stocks of equipment that is designed for fast temporary installations.

This includes;

  1. Portable temporary chillers with fast connect electrical and water connection systems.
  2. 10bar rubber suction and discharge flexible hosing with Camloc connectors.
  3. Temporary H07 RNF power cabling.
  4. Experienced technicians for installation and commissioning.

Temporary chiller hire costs depend on the equipment supplied and the duration of the project. Simply put, the longer you hire a chiller for the cheaper it will get.

For example;

To hire a 300kw chiller for a month would typically cost around ÂŁ450-550 per week.

However, to hire the same chiller for 6 months you would pay around ÂŁ300-375 per week.

These are basic costs for the temporary chiller and you would have to factor in additional equipment such as temporary hosing, cabling, pumps etc for the full equipment costs. Typically, auxiliary equipment would make up 20-30% of the base cost of the chiller rental.

As you would appreciate, every job is very different and costs vary, however, please be assured that we are committed to providing the most cost effective chiller rentals services in the industry today.

Firstly, get in touch by using the forms here, by email or phone. It always really helps to be given as much information as possible.

Including;

  1. Site location
  2. Expected duration of the temporary chiller hire. Typically, longer durations mean lower weekly hire costs
  3. The size of chiller required. Which could be the rating of a chiller that has possibly broken down, or the loading of a specific process cooling application.
  4. Suitable access routes and proposed location of the Temporary chiller.
  5. Connection points for the water hosing. For example, are there isolated flanges or other on the chiller water flow and return pipe-work legs- maybe 2″ BSP flushing access points on risers?
  6. A suitable electrical supply to connect to. Maybe for instance, the existing chiller supply, either at the chiller or distribution point.

Don’t worry if all the above sounds daunting. We are here to help and can guide you through the process, so please get in touch.

Yes, temporary chiller hire is a great idea, particularly if you have a short term need for cooling, have modulating cooling needs, or want to avoid large upfront capital costs.

It ultimately offers flexibility, reduced costs- including maintenance and repair liabilities, when compared to purchasing a chiller.

Typical problems that are encountered that involve extended down-time for repairs and a temporary chiller solution include;

  • Compressor failure- compressor are an integral part of the refrigeration process that compress and move the refrigerant around the cooling circuit.

In the first place procuring the compressor new or repairing the existing can be a drawn out process.

Secondly, to enable the replacement generally requires a full removal of the refrigerant and disconnection of electrical and pipe-work systems.

Compressors can also be very bulky and heavy which requires specialist lift and shift teams to remove from the chiller and away from the plant area such as a roof.

  • Refrigerant leaks- Refrigerant is contained in the refrigerant circuit of the machine which is sealed. If a leak occurs refrigerant is lost from the system and causes a failure ie. no cooling effect.

Leaks can be time consuming to repair and involve the removal of any remaining refrigerant followed by the charging of Nitrogen to pressurise and location of any leaks.

Once identified, and the leaks repaired, a further extended test is carried out to ensure tightness.

This is followed by the evacuation of the refrigerant circuit to remove all gases and a re-charge with the correct weight of refrigerant before re-commissioning to running order.

  • Evaporator breaches- are one of the most destructive faults that can occur in a chiller. The evaporator is where the refrigerant exchanges heat with the water circulating though it. They are always separated so that they dont mix. When breaches occur the water eventually makes its way into the refrigerant system where it mixes with the oil and turns to acid causing major failure to component parts including the compressor.

In this situation it is a very time consuming and expensive process to clean out the refrigeration circuit and in many cases it is more cost effective to replace the machine.

Whilst not an exhaustive list, these are some of the most costly and time consuming faults that can occur with chillers. In these instances chiller hire may be a very good option to keep a cooling system running whilst repairs are made.
