2000kw chiller hire project for district cooling system support over the summer months.
This 2000kw chiller hire project was ordered by a major pharmaceutical manufacturer in Kent that had suffered a failure of its fixed chillers.
The site utilises two 1 megawatt water cooled Ammonia chillers for a district cooling system.
Unfortunately, the client had suffered compressor failure to both chillers that required a temporary solution to maintain site cooling.
The client required a fast emergency service to resolve the issue in the short term whilst they procured repairs.
One of the 16kw pumps that was installed to provide flow for each chiller. 6″ composite hose was used for connection and a pair of 4″ rubber hoses used for the supply and return.
Climate Rentals specified two 1000kw air cooled water chillers to meet the cooling demand of the failed units.
The units were picked from stock, delivered to site by hiab lorry and positioned in a suitable location close to the existing chiller plant-room.
Access to the clients water system was made from the main access points that were readily available on the flow and return pipework system- special fittings were made to adapt from 12″ flanges to 4″ camloc for our hose connections.
Because of the high water volume required, two pairs of 4″ 10 bar rubber suction and discharge hose was specified for connection to the chillers flow and return.
Each chiller was fitted with a 16kw pump, inverter driven, to allow for accurate balancing of the water flow between the chillers.
Power was supplied from the fixed chillers and connected with single core H07 RNF cable.
Simple toggle on/ off control of the each chiller unit and pump set ensured fast simple operation.
Overall, a highly effective and simple system from an operational point of view.
We had a really good result with this project meeting all the requirements set at the outset
Obviously, whilst larger projects such as this require a heavy labour input, they are in essence very straightforward if you have the correct equipment in stock, maintained and available for quick supply.
Logistically, many threads need to be brought together to ensure a smooth trouble free installation of temporary chiller hire projects. Happily, that was the case here and the client was operational within two days.
This temporary system remained in place for a contracted 18 weeks before removal.
A really good job that surpassed expectations.
